Sergine Dumais A graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York, Sergine Dumais is a “triple threat” as well as a director, a teacher and a coach.
Her professional stage career started at the age of sixteen. As a member of the French-Canadian dance group Les Doricettes, she performed in many television shows in Canada, worked on cruise ships and toured Canada and the USA. At the age of nineteen, she decided to pursue acting. Two years later, she started her training in musical theatre with Robert Marien (Broadway and West-End’s Les Miserables). After being admitted at AMDA, she moved to New York and made her debut in musicals.
After graduating from AMDA, she returned to Canada where she took part in several critically acclaimed musicals. She performed opposite Rémi Girard in La Cage aux Folles, created the very first French-speaking Frenchy in the French adaptation of Grease and starred in 5 Woman Show (which she also co-created). She re-joined her mentor Robert Marien as his assistant in directing many productions such as Starmania, Celebration 2005, Rencontres sur Broadway and, more recently, Le Petit Roy. She also directed several productions on her own. She recently directed a French adaptation of Rent as part of the Camp Musical du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean.
In 2002, Sergine discovered yet a new passion for teaching and coaching. First, she taught at L’École Supérieure de Théâtre Musical, where she also developed the musical theatre program. In 2007, one of her dreams came true when she created her own musical theatre workshops. She coached various performers including Dora Awards nominee Yvan Pedneault (Rent, We Will Rock You) and recording artists Marilou and Caroline Néron. Concurrently, she pursues her ongoing training with voice teacher Lucette Tremblay and American mentors Warren Robertson and Tom Todoroff. She recently spent four months in Los Angeles where she perfected her directing and teaching skills alongside Judith Weston.
Sergine is the artistic director and co-founder of the Group Musical Theatre Montreal. She also became an advocate for promoting and supporting musical theatre. She is actively involved with non-profit organizations which help support musical theatre in Montreal. |
