My Approach:
My approach is based on theater techniques specifically designed for musical theatre. Performers learn to build a character, to tell a story while respecting conventions of the musical theatre art form.
Musical theater is commonly defined as being the combination of three forms of art: theatre, song, and dance. However, I believe that musical theatre is more than this simple fusion: it is an art form that stands on its own. It is the performer’s responsibility to tune his/her instrument regularly, and continue to refine. My workshops won’t replace dance or voice lessons. They offer tools, techniques to “act a song” and play a part in musical theatre.
During the workshops, all the performer’s skills (singing, acting, and movement) are called into action. As a result, the whole instrument will have a chance to evolve.
What you need to know about the workshops:
• The workshops are made up of a dozen participants, where observation is as important as individual work,
• Each participant is expected to present one or two songs (solo and/or duet) drawn from the musical theatre repertoire. The participants choose the piece they wish to work on. New comers may be guided in their song selection if they wish to,
• Each participant must schedule rehearsal time and preparation throughout the workshop,
• Each class includes group exercises and individual coaching in which song analysis and character work is set in action.
• The musical direction is ensured by the in-class pianist,
• Work is done in a professional context, requiring rigor and discipline.
• We provide a safe and fun environment. The group energy is highly stimulating. On top of all, it inspires artists to thrive and push their boundaries even more.
